Introduction
Thank you for your interest in the Tompkins High School Choir Council. The Officers of the Choir Council have a tremendous duty to serve the members of the choir and to make choir the smoothest, most efficient organization it can be.
The directors are looking for qualified individuals who will lead all members of all choirs by example and who will tirelessly work to ensure the continued high standards of excellence in the choir

In order to run for an elected office, one must be enrolled in Choir during the current and following school year.
Standards for Officers
- To be qualified to hold an elected office, a nominee must be a current member of choir and enrolled in choir for the next school year.
- President and Logistical Vice President must be members of Chorale
- Individuals must have maintained a passing average (including Pre-AP and AP classes and those exempted by Katy ISD) in all classes during the school year.
- Individuals must have maintained conduct grades of at least Satisfactory in all classes
- Individuals must have participated in all required activities of the Tompkins HS Choir
Election Process
Applicants must submit a complete application, which includes:
- Complete and Submit the Officer Application
- Schedule an interview with the choir director. The current choir council president may also be in attendance.
- Attend the speech taping. The speeches will be shown in all choir classes on the day of elections. Time limit for speeches is two minutes.
Term
Officers will serve one school year, beginning immediately after graduation.

Officer Duties
All Officers
- Ask the directors if they need anything the afternoon before an event/concert and at the conclusion of an event before they leave an event.
- Wear a Choir shirt one day a week. The day will be determined by the Choir Council.
- Assist with work in the Choir Room at least one hour a week either before school, after school (except Fridays), or during Study Hall.
- Insure that the Choir Room, Uniform Room and Practice Rooms are tidy.
- Be positive and feel like they are the guardians of the Choir.
- Foster an attitude that the Choir Room is a great place to hang out.
- Attend every choir event.
- Help all Choir members feel welcome and part of the Choir Department.
- Lead the Choir by example.
Choir Representatives
Choir Representatives have numerous responsibilities. Primary duties of the representatives are to:
- Serve as members of the Uniform, Set-Up and Library Committees as such
- Maintain uniforms for their choir and assign/collect replacement parts if a student is missing pieces. Keep in close contact with Vice President for this duty
- Assist in the set up of concerts, coffee houses and all other events. Keep in close contact with Logistics Officer(s) for this duty
- Maintain and oversee music distribution for their choir. Keep in close contact with the Librarian(s) for this task
- Assist with ushering at choir shows and concerts
President
- In charge of all student officers
- Communicates with officers and directors
- Communicates with students through remind (shared responsibility with VP)
- Oversees officer and choir activities
- Plans officer meetings
- Works closely with all officers, especially logistics and VP
Adminstrative Assistant
- Works closely with all officers, especially librarians and historians
- Updates the whiteboard with necessary information
- Collaborates with socials and historians for ideas and brainstorming
- Any extra organizational and behind the scenes duties
Uniforms
- Keeps uniforms in narnia organized and sorted
- Keeps track of uniforms on charms
- Keeps inventory up to date
- Keeps track of assigned uniforms and garment bags
- Checks in and out uniforms with the help of other officers and directors
Socials Officer
- Runs the choir Instagram and Tik Tok
- Oversees the planning and execution of all choir socials (except for banquet)
- Works closely with historians to decorate, plan and take pictures
- Puts together an end of year scrapbook and slideshow with the help of historians and other officers
Vice President
- Communicates with officers and directors
- works closely with all officers, especially Uniforms and President
- Communicates with students through remind (shared responsibility with president)
- Oversees officer and choir activities
- Any unassigned roles are monitored by VP
Logistics Officer
- In charge of the student logistics team to ensure adequate student volunteers for each choir event
- Remind, sign-ups
- Works closely with uniforms officers at the beginning and end of the year to check in and check out uniforms
- Helps with uniform inventory
- Basically anything and everything
***Events include: Coffee house, Backstage help, Social setups, Concerts (high school and junior high), and any other events that require extra help.
Librarian
- Sorts music and logs it on Charms
- Keeps the library organized and clean
- Inform booster club or director when supplies are low
- Checks music in and out
Historian
- Works closely with Socials officer to plan social events and decorate
- Updates/manages the bulletin boards outside of the choir room
- Gathers photos from all choirs and promotes the photo drive (we have a photo drive QR code all classes can add photos to)
- Update the choir room calendar
- Creates choir year scrapbook and end of year slideshow with socials officer(s)
Officer Discipline
If an officer does not complete their duties or acts in an inappropriate manner, the following consequences will result:
- First offense – meeting with the directors
- Second offense – probation for 3 weeks
- Third offense – dismissal from the position
- Immediate dismissal may occur if you do not represent the THS Choir in a positive manner, or if you treat a student or choir parent, or the directors with disrespect or dishonor them in or outside of school. THS Choir Officers are held to a very high standard.
Termination of an Officer
If at any time during his/her office an officer fails to live up to the standards of the THS Choir Handbook or his/her choir expectations such as:
- failure to attend rehearsals
- failure to be prepared
- failure to participate in required activities
- failure to attend officer meetings
- failure to pass all classes including Pre-AP and AP classes
- general failure to fulfill the responsibilities of the office
The director has the authority to remove the individual from the office. A replacement will be appointed by the director after consulting with the officers.
