Christin Reinartz – Director

Ms. Reinartz is proud to be the Head Choir Director at Obra D. Tompkins High School since its inaugural year in 2013. Prior to taking the Choir position at Tompkins, Christin Reinartz taught for three years as the Assistant Choir Director at Seven Lakes High School in Katy. In her first year of public school teaching, she was selected as the First Year Teacher of the Year at Seven Lakes. Previously, she served for five years as the music minister, pianist, and choir director at Grace Memorial Church in New Braunfels, Texas. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas State University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. She continued her study, under the tutelage of Dr. Joey Martin, receiving her Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting in 2010. During her graduate studies, Christin had the distinct privilege of directing Texas State’s elite vocal jazz ensemble, VocaLibre. While at Texas State, Christin was the proud recipient of the Reed B. Parr and Lucille Aikin Patterson music scholarships, as well as the Theresa Gordon Opera Scholarship, Gregory Grimes and Woods-Kone Endowed Scholarships; all of which were awarded upon various academic, merit, and performance-based elements. In her last year she was selected by faculty vote to receive the esteemed Presser Foundation Scholarship, considering academic standing, leadership, and extracurricular activities.

Christin shares both a love of teaching and stage performance. She is a member of Cantare Houston and was featured as the soloist for Ola Gjeilo’s Dark Night and Luminous Night of the Soul which has been released to CD. She performed several roles with the Texas State Opera including, Cunegonde in Candide, Adele in Die Fledermaus, and Constance in Dialogues of the Carmelites. She also sang two seasons with the San Antonio Chamber Choir under the direction of Scott MacPherson. Behind the baton, Christin has served as an undergraduate Reading Session Conductor for the Texas Choral Director’s Association convention in 2006, as well as for the Southwest American Choral Director’s Association convention in 2008. She also received an Honorable Mention in the American Choral Director’s Association Graduate Conducting Competition in 2009.

Ms. Reinartz has thoroughly enjoyed building the Tompkins Choir program! Her choirs have consistently received Superior Sweepstakes awards at UIL Contest. This year the Tompkins Chorale was selected to be an honor choir at the University of Houston’s Choir Invitational. They also competed in the inaugural Director’s Choice- “Celebration of Excellence” Choral Festival alongside some of the best high school choral programs in the greater Houston area and received 1st runner-up! She couldn’t be more proud of the Tompkins Choirs and their continued growth.

Aside from music Christin loves to dance! She is a member of the D’Amico Dance company and trains as a dance competitor in both the Country Western and West Coast Swing circuits. She is the 2017 ACDA National Champion in both the ProAm Novice Open and Copper divisions. In 2016 she placed 2nd overall in her division at the UCWDC Worlds Competition! In previous dance seasons, she has won 1st place Overall Champion in her divisions at the Texas Classic, New Orleans Dance Mardi Gras, Lonestar Invitational, and at New Mexico Dance Fiesta. She aims to never stop learning and believes that continuing to set goals as a student herself contributes towards being an effective teacher for her students!
